The first time I heard Daft Punk was long ago. It was New Year's eve, and I was spending my time in my godparents' place. MTV was on, though nobody was really watching it. And suddenly, there it was. The most awesome music video I had seen. It seemed like cartoon, but as a wise kid I knew the drawing style was called anime. I tried to memorize the name of the song so that I could listen to it later, but as anyone can guess, I either forgot the name really soon, or just forgot to search for the song.
I was 14 when Daft Punk came to blow my mind. I was home, cooking in kitchen, listening to the songs played on The Voice (a Finnish music channel). It was really strange when I heard it again. The song sounded so familiar and I had to stop cooking and see what was that song, wrecking up my mind by sounding so nostalgic. There it was again. I remember thinking "this can't be!", and I ran fast to get pen and paper so that this time I would, I surely would remember the name!

Having eaten the dinner I rushed to upstairs and downloaded the song. It had never sounded so good, because after all, I had just started listening to electronic music! At that time, I hadn't realized that I could download albums as .zips or .rars, so I was happy with just one song. Soon after I got my second song from Daft Punk. It was "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger". At that time Kanye West's version was a hit, but I liked the original version more.
I think I would never really have started listening to Daft Punk for real, if it wasn't for usual. We were spending a night-over at my place, and just listening to some random-cds I had burned. When "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" started playing she became really excited. She was asking me questions like "What's this artist?" "Where is this band from?" "How did you find this song?", and I was really confused, because after all, it was just a song that my sister sent me! Just the original version of Kanye West's "Stronger"!
After that night-over I sent "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" to usual. She had Limewire, so she started to download songs from Daft Punk that sounded cool. I think that the third song we listened to was "Robot Rock". She downloaded it because it was our Transformers-season, and everything related to robots was awesome. We both liked "Robot Rock" pretty much.

It was the next summer that she suddenly announced that she had ordered Daft Punk's album "Discovery" from a site called cdon.com! We listened to "Discovery" a lot, and started to study about the band in general. We absorbed the inside-jokes pretty quickly and Guillaume-Emmanuel Paul de Homem-Christo was our favorite thing to say. Usual made a Daft Punk-hoodie. We wrote the words of "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" on our hands and started to learn this.
I didn't buy the CDs although usual did. I didn't really have the money, and at that time I didn't have the respect for real CDs like these days. But I loved listening to them. We really did all weird things, such as wrapping aluminum around our heads, only because Guy-Manuel and Thomas had done so. Usual started to draw these robots. We even had a big plan of making Daft Punk-plushies. We never did those. Maybe someday we will.

Everything, everything related to Daft Punk was exclusive to us. If there was an ad somewhere in the streets that had Thomas' or Guy's picture on it, we ripped it off, it was supposed to be on our wall. I still have one poster of Thomas on my closet.
In summer/fall 2009 I really started to love real CDs. I got Beck's CD "Guero" as a confirmation gift from usual. Suddenly I remembered how awesome it was, to hold a real CD in my hands. It felt like supporting the artist, and because I respected Daft Punk so much, I wanted to support them, and soon I bought two CDs from them, "Discovery" and "Musique vol. 1". It was then when I realized that music truly was (and is) my passion. Having bought real CDs from my favorite group felt so awesome that I needed more. And quickly. Christmas passed, and I got money as present. I bought Daft Punk's "Alive 2007" and Beck's "Mutations". Apart from those, I needed to buy clothes, too, so I had to forget buying CDs for a while. There just wasn't money enough.

I was actively searching through huuto.net (it's like Finland's eBay.), and one day there was an awesome set, Daft Punk's "Human After All" and "Technologic (single)" in the same set, and the whole thing costed only about 10€! I had to get it. Luckily it was okay with mom and I got it. Funny thing is, that after getting that set I said something about being so excited about it to my friend. He secretly bought me Daft Punk's "Homework", because I had said that I didn't have it yet. It was… really nice.
Hmm.. Is there anything I forgot? If there is, I guess it wasn't that important. Having listened to Daft Punk for many years now, I must say that I never ever get bored to it. Daft Punk is my nirvana.
